Carborundum and Monotype prints are something I turn to when I am looking for more freedom and less detail.
Carborundum Prints I either use aluminium or perspex as a base, then paint on an image with wood glue using different techniques and tools. Grit is sprinkled on the glued sections and left to dry and sometimes I will add some drypoint. The plate is then inked up, wiped and printed using an etching press.
The result is often very exciting, the grit takes on lots of ink producing wonderful velvety results but it’s very messy! The plate can be used again but loses some of its grit each time so the editions are small.
